(Stereo or Anaglyph Frames from left and right frames)

The project

This laboratory assembles left and right frames to produce stereo or anaglyphs frames.
The stereo frames are in side-by-side format for crosseyed or parallel freeviewing or are in single side for the anaglyph.

The laboratory comprises two sections, the first is for the creation of the projection program (Moviola) and the second is for adjusting the stereo window and the clipping of the frames.

Moviola Section (Video Editor)
This section operates as a perfect moviola with which it is possible to use all or only a part of the original frames, to duplicate the sequences, to change the order of the sequences, etc.
Every memorised sequence can also contain other parameters that allow the quality of the stereo films to be improved.
For instance, it is possible to memorise the synchronism between the right and left frames or the value of shift for the anaglyphs.

The projection programme consists of text-lines that each contain the starting and ending frame number and the shift and synchronism parameters.
The programme lines can be moved in the projection hierarchy by using the specific buttons.

The projection programme can be saved with the menu "File" and recalled at any time.
Saving the projection programme is not only important for allowing further work; it also provides the possibility of having different versions of the same film.

To create a new sequence line, the "Start" and "End" spinbuttons are used, each Spinbutton has the ability to independently preview the frame that it moves.

The projection programme is a linear visual editor whose effect is immediately displayed by the dynamic preview.
The preview is available either for the entire projection programme or for just each line.
To see the preview of the whole film, use the "Play" button and for the preview of a single line double-click on the line.

To hide/reveal the controls dialogue-box, click on the image to toggle.

If the controls dialugue is hidden, use "Enter" to see/stop the preview.

On moving the mouse on the spinbutton "Start" and "End" the frame of Start or End sequence is displayed .

Stereo Window Section
In this section  the optimal position for the stereo viewing of the Left/Right frames is set and the dimensions of each frame and the total dimension of the projection window determined.
It is also possible to add coloured interspace (septum) between the frames as simple decoration or as elements that increase viewing comfort.

This section has previews that allow you to immediately see the result for the frame on which you are working or for the whole projection programme.
Much of this laboratory's functions and controls are also described in the Tutorial "
Frames from AVI" LAB.

To improve the work performed on the stereo frames you can use the various 3D Gugle LABs.

For instance:

Movie 2D to 3D                 To convert an ordinary film to 3D or to correct the depth of a stereo film
Layers Assembly                To create stereo animation using the Layers.
Write LAB                        To create Layers from word or text

Algorithms to Layers          To automatically create the intermediate frames required for lenticulars or animations.

AVI from frames               To create an AVI movie from frames
Frame from AVI                To extract the frames from an AVI movie
Capture Video/Audio          To capture in AVI format videos from Web pages, DVD, etc.
Graphics on frames             Apply a graphics function to a series of frames
Frame Utility                      Apply various functions to a series of frames

Save/Resize Batch             Many important function on the frames
Security Media Player        3D Gugle's powerful media player to view your movies without compromising security or privacy

3D WebCam                       To see a stereo preview from your WebCams

Menu and other information on the LAB

To activate this LAB select the menu: "Movie/3D frames from left-right frames".

You should first load the left and right frames that this laboratory requires.

Attention: the two groups of frames must occupy different directories.

Since this laboratory can also be used for 2D to 3D conversion using the synchronism method, before entering the LAB make a copy of the directory and change its name so that the new directory will contain the frames to use as virtual stereo pairs.

To load the frames, use "File/Open Left Frames" and then "File/Open Right Frames".

After opening the frames, you will need to choose the working method. The method can however be changed at any time by just selecting a different mode.

If "Left" or "Right" is chosen, it is possible to see the corresponding frames in the preview window. This function allows you to quickly scan the frames and search for a scene or simply view a sequence.

The "Stereo" mode allows you to create a single frame (side-by-side) composed from two frames, one from the left and one from right group of frames.

When "Stereo" is active in the dialogue, other buttons are also displayed specific to this work.

"<>" This button swaps the position of the stereo frames (Left with Right).

"Sync" modifies the synchronisation between the left and right frames.

Synchronisation
This function is very important and has two purposes: the first is for the conversion to 3D and the second is for correcting synchronism errors between the left/right frames.
The synchronism errors are determined by the two cameras that have recorded the scene.
Even if the two cameras are the same make and model, they normally produce films with slightly different speeds.
This difference is unacceptable when creating a stereoscopic film.
The error can be corrected by modifying the synchronism difference between frames so that the left and right scenes are as identical as possible.

Selecting the "Anaglyph" mode shows the anaglyph created from the two frames: one from the left group and one from the right group.
The Shift colour used is that selected in the: "
Preference" menu.

With the "<>" button you can swap the left frame with the right frame.

The "Sync" spinbutton allows you to correct the left/right synchronisation errors. For further information see "Synchronisation" on this page.

To check the changes in realtime that have been made, press "Prev".
To visualise the preview with the changes for the whole film, press "Play".

The white arrow button activates/deactivates the section of this LAB that reorganises the left/right frames and correctly positions them inside the stereo window.
On pressing this button, the aspect of the window changes and the required controls are displayed.

In stereo mode

In anaglyph mode

For the various functions in this section please consult the tutorial "Open Stereo Pairs".

The small yellow buttons reset their associated local sections.

The "RST" button resets all the controls to their initial default value.

The two blue labels "LX = " and "LY = " indicate the dimensions in pixels of the sides of the panel that contains the two frames.
If the text of these labels is red it means that the corresponding dimensions are not suitable for creating movies.
If you create a film, always remember that the dimensions in pixels must be exactly divisible by 8 and the new frames must be cropped accordingly.

When "anaglyph" is activated, a "Shift" spinbutton is displayed.
This button allows you to move the shift colour to the left or right.
This function is very important and is used for reducing Ghosting and window violations.
3D Gugle also has a deghosting function that is able to operate on sequences of frames. For further information click here
Info

To return to the normal Moviola (Video Editor) section, press the white arrow button again.

Menu File
When the work is completed it is possible to save the new stereo frames in a specific directory.
To save the frames, select "Save 3D Frames" from the "File" menu.

When 3D Gugle is in "Stereo" mode, it is possible to save the "Left" frames and the "Right" frames separately.

This allows you, after assembly of the frames, to create two separate films suitable for polarised projection or for viewing with media players that work with two films simultaneously.

Attention: when you save single frames, the frames named "Left" or "Right" are the same frames that were loaded with "Load Left" or "Load Right" even if you subsequently used the "Swap" button to change them over.
