(Optical Ectoplasm illusion)

In this laboratory you can generate simple or multi-optical illusions or images for general graphic use.

Note

Please remember that:
1) To hide/reveal the controls dialogue-box, click on the image to toggle.

2) To move the scroll bars you can use the mouse wheel or the keys.
To use these functions select first the scroll bar by clicking with the mouse.
The active keys are the following: "A." and "S" which move one unit, "Z" and "X" which move by several units while "Home" and "End" bring the scrolls to each extreme.

3) For further information on the standard controls see Common buttons and functionality

The scroll bars

"PosX" and "PosY" move the centre of the image in the respective directions.
"Rad" applies a spherical transformation.
"NX" and "NY" determines the number of columns
"
Shift" (label) red and blue move the respective colour in a horizontal direction.
"
Thick" shows the previous
level in the areas of the active level that have a low luminance.

"
Alpha
" mixes the current level with the previous levels. This scroll is used to create multi-level images.

The Levels management

This LAB can manage 12 levels (0 to 11) of overlapped images.
The overlap can be made visible by moving the "Alpha" scroll.
Each level can have different setting values and the values are memorised in the level.
You can start by using an image or a wide black or coloured canvas.

The little yellow button moves quickly to the first level, level zero or start level.
The
buttons with arrow icons move between the levels.
On using the right arrow you move to the next level. If the level doesn't exist a new level is automatically created.
When a new level is created, the level is an exact copy of the previous level.
To see a new level you must act first on the "
Alpha" scroll and then you move any other scroll.
The label that initially has the text "
Empty" shows the number of the selected level.
The button with an
"Eraser" icon is used to delete the selected level.
The button
"Clear"
deletes all levels and starts a new project.

The menu "File" is used to save or recall the data of the levels and to save the levels in a sequence of frames.
This sequence you can use to create a movie or graphic animations.

Other controls

The button "Invert" inverts in negative.

Others suggestions
Starting from this basic setting try other values to understand the process.
Normally, when the image is completed, it is necessary to adjust the contrast. To do this operation you can use the LAB of
 "Reconstruction By Contrast".

If you save the image for the web we suggest using the format *.png or  "3D Gugle jpeg" with "HQ" setting ON and a compression value of 85.

You can crop and you can use only a part of the images with a illusion but the cropped image must contain the part that is the generator of the illusion.
