< How to install and to use K-Lite Codec Pack
This LAB was designed,
in particular, to gather together video clips after having made the conversion
to 3D.
Usually before converting a movie into 3D, it is best to divide the movie into a
series of clips. The division provides a more rational work plan and avoids the
use of large spaces on the hard disk.
To extract the clips from a movie use the LAB of "Frames from AVI".
"Frames from AVI" has an extremely precise visual Video-Editor with Audio/Video
preview.
You can use the preview in two ways. By double clicking on the program line you
have a preview only for the segment determined by that line. By pressing the
button "Play" you have a preview for all lines starting from the selected line
to the end of the program.

Typically a clip is saved in two files: one
with the video and the other with the audio.
From the video clip you extract the frames to convert into 3D and later, having
completed the conversion, you re-add the audio file to reconstruct the original
clip. These operations you do in the LAB "AVI from Frames".
After completing the conversion for all the
clips that belong to the original film in this LAB, you join the various clips
to re-create the movie in 3D.
To join the clips the function "Join AVI clips" is
used.
The function "Join AVI clips" is designed to be extremely flexible and has
unique features which you can use for various non- 3D movie applications. For
example it is possible to combine films with completely different layers.
Suppose you want to bring together into one film a series of films that have
between them different sizes, different type of compression, different speed and
different audio.
With "Join AVI clips" this operation it is not only possible but is also
extremely easy to perform.
The LAB "Movies Utility" can also import or export movies in different formats.
The function to import from different formats is: "Convert
movie to AVI" while to export the function "Convert
AVI to movie" is used.
The export formats made available allow the sharing of films with the Internet
and the Apple system.
The formats are:
"mpg" universal
"mp4" high-quality universal
"mov" Mac standard format
"flv" standard format used by Adobe Flash Player especially for the Internet
For the importation formats the most common
were selected for use but it is appropriate to mention that the conversion to
AVI is not always successful.
Films may derive from innumerable software programs which, while working with
the same format, introduce differences are not always discoverable or
manageable.
For the best possible way to solve the conversion function, "Convert AVI movie
to" operates on two levels. The first level implements a conversion in
accordance with international standards using an internal decompressor and then,
in the second level a selected compressor for audio and video is used. To select
a video compressor use the button "Compressor". If the button is not visible the
selection is automatically selected by 3D Gugle.
Notes
1) To take the maximum advantage of the capabilities of this laboratory, we
recommend installing the best known encoder/decoder in your computer, especially
one related to the compressor MPEG4-V2 which is compatible with the AVI format.
One solution would be to install a pack type "K-Lite Codec Pack",
The test we performed was successful but we
can not guarantee this software.
For more information about the setting of "K-Lite Codec Pack" see the
footnotes.
2) This laboratory does not work correctly
if you use the decoder/encoder "XviD".

UP
To start the lab, from the
menu "Movie", select "Movies Utility".
To select the function to perform, click on the specific selector.
See the red lines.
Currently there are six possible functions:

"Add/Change sound"
This function changes or adds a new sound to an existing AVI movie.
The sound can be loaded from another AVI movie or from a "Wav" file.
To compress a sound file and then add it to the same movie, you must first
extract the audio with " Comnvert
PCM to MP3" and then you use this section to replace the uncompressed
(PCM) audio.
To extract the audio in a planned and discontinuous mode you must use the menu File "Save Audio Clip (Wav)" of the LAB "Frames from AVI ". Please note also that, with 3D Gugle you can record sound directly from the computer using the LAB of "Capture Video/Audio".

Caution
In the resulting video, the video/audio compression formats remain
unchanged. In other words, the new film will have the same video compression as
the original video and the same audio as the original audio. Accordingly to use
this feature, you must have installed on your computer the audio/video
decoder/encoder with which the original movies have been compressed.
For example, if a video is compressed with DivX, in order to change the sound
you will need to have the DivX encoder / decoder installed.
UP
"Recompress AVI"
This function changes the
video compression of an AVI, preserving the same audio.
To change the compression parameters or to use another compressor, press the
"Compressor" button.

"Convert movie to AVI"
This function converts the
format of an existing movie into AVI format.
The AVI format is the only format that is compatible with all laboratories of 3D
Gugle movie.
To choose the new video compressor, use the button "Compressor".

Currently you can convert into AVI the following formats:
*.mpg;
*.mpeg; *.mp4; *.mov; *.asf; *.flv; *.swf; *.wmv; *.vob
The audio of the resultant AVI is always
in the uncompressed format Microsoft "PCM".
To reduce the file size you can change some parameters of the audio by clicking
on the drop-down menu shown below.
After the conversion, however, you can convert the audio PCM into MP3 (MPEG
Layer-3) with the function "Convert
PCM to MP3".

Note
If it is necessary to stop the compression process, close the system window
that is active during the conversion
In this section you can convert an AVI
file into another format.

Possible formats are:
"*.mpg", "*.mp4",
"*.mov", "*.flv".
To select the format of the new video, click on the drop-down menu in the save
dialogue shown in the figure below.
For the "*.mpg" format the
conversion is possible only if the original film has the speed in frames/sec
greater than or equal to 20 frames/s
UP
With this function you can compress an
uncompressed file "*. wav" (PCM) into MPEG Layer-3 (MP3).
The conversion process generates an independent file "*.wav" so the function can
be used to extract an audio file from an existing AVI movie.
To do this operation you simply load the movie from which you want to take the
sound, using the button "Load PCM".
To add the extracted audio to another film or to the same film use the function "Add/Change
sound".
The MP3 compression dramatically reduces the size of the audio files but, of
course, the audio quality is also reduced.

"Join AVI clips"
This function will join AVI
clips into a single AVI movie.

The "Join AVI clips" is extremely
powerful and has taken
months for his development.
The features of this function allows to
join AVI movies with completely different layers.
The "Join AVI clips" is extremely powerful and has taken
months of development.
The features of this function allow the joining of AVI movies with completely
different layers.
For instance you can create a new movie using clips that have these differences
between them:
1) dimensions
2) video compression
3) audio compression
4) clips with audio clips
5) speed (frame/sec)
When you start the procedure all the
parameters are recalculated and normalized to obtain a homogeneous film with the
same characteristics.
The audio of the new film, regardless of the format which is present in the
various clips, will be in uncompressed PCM or MP3 when this is checked in the
box. "MP3".
When you use the button "Add Clips" to load the films to join, you can load
multiple files at once.
The rules of the multiple selection files are the same used in Windows.
To arrange the clips, clone or delete, use the appropriate
little buttons to the right of the list of clips.
The clips files will be added to the new movie in sequence starting from the
first film at the top of the list.
To change the video compression parameters use the button "Compressor".
Selecting "Only movie" will create a video that does not contain audio.
Using the settings "Force frame rate" and "Force frame size".
"Force frame rate" is used when the clips
have different speeds or if you want to force the speed to a specified value.
To know the speed or the attributes of the loaded clips press the
button "Info".

On pressing the "Info" button a new window appears with a list of movie properties, and "Frame/s" (frames per second) indicates the projection speed.

To set the settings click on the check
button "Force frame rate".
Pressing the button will make available three options:

"Default" is
used when all the loaded clips have the same frame rate (Frame rate = speed
projection).
If you select this option and the Clips have different frame rate the resultant
audio will not sync with the video.
"Auto" is used when the loaded clips have different
frame rates. On selecting "Auto" the first clip in the list will be considered
as a reference and all clips’ frame rates following will use the same value as
the first clip.
"Set" forces the same frame rate for all the clips.
When you select "Set" a spin becomes visible with which determine the new frame
rate.

To close the Options section of the
frame rate and store the new settings, press "Save"
or "Annul" to not change the existing settings.
"Force frame size" is used when you want to
determine the
frame size in pixels of the new video that will be created.
On pressing "Force Frame size" a window appears with two options.

On selecting "Auto" the first clip in
the list will be considered as a reference and all following clips will be
converted in size to the same values of the first clip.
"Set" forces all the clips to have the same size
that is manually entered.
When you select "Set" two spins will become visible with which
to determine the new size in pixels.
The values manually entered by the spins represent a rectangle which will be
drawn in proportion to the image of the frame.
The area larger and unused in the rectangle will result in a black colour.

To close the Options section of the frame size and save the new settings, press
"Save" or "Annul" to
not change the existing parameters.
Note to install and use
"K-Lite
Codec Pack"
Download
K-Lite
Codec Pack
After installation you should restart your computer.
"K-Lite" installs a container which is very flexible and fully
compatible with the AVI format and MS-Media Player.
The container is called "ffdshow Video Codec" which is abbreviated "ffds"
see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ffdshow.
To access the settings of "K-Lite" select the function "Recompress AVI" and then press the button "Compressor".
In the window that appears which contains the list of compressors present in your computer, select "ffdshow Video Codec".

Press the "Configure"
button.
On pressing "Configure", in many cases, a window with the invitation to make a
donation appears. In this case close the window and try again.
The correct window (without extra messages) is the same as the one shown in the
image below.

Now all that remains is to
choose the compressor to be used and to determine the quality.
In our opinion, the best conditions are those that use the FFDS container with
the MPEG4-v2 video compressor.
To set this compressor in the drop-down menu "Encoder"
select MS-MPEG4 v2 if it exists or MPEG4-v2.
In the drop-down menu "FOURCC" select "MPG2".
To determine the quality of the video use the scroll bar "Bitrate
(kbps)". For an average quality (but adequate) set the value to 5000. The
higher values improve the quality but, of course, increase the size of the
resultant file.
To store settings press "Apply" then "OK"
and a new "OK" in the first window that displays a
list of compressors.
